Perspectives Matter #2912 - The Myth of American Inequality
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
Former Senator Gramm, R,1985-2002, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, and author of the Reagan budget in the House, an economist, and co-author of The Myth of American Inequality, makes a case that what we think we know about income inequality, poverty, and other measures of economic well-being in America are inaccurate.
He joins host Dennis McCuistion, in a robust discussion giving the reasons why our measurements have been consistently inaccurate. He states that income inequality is not a growing threat and that in fact, it is lower today than at any time in post-WW II America.
Is the American Dream still alive and well or is the reverse true? Join us and let’s hear your opinion.

AI puzzles many. What is it, how does it work, and will it lead to robots taking over the world? AI makes it possible for machines to learn from experience, adjust to new inputs and perform human-like tasks.
“Computers” can be trained to accomplish specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns in the data. (SAS.com) AI may be puzzling but it’s been around for a while and we’ve grown used to the help that let’s say an Alexa can give us.
While some of us are concerned about how AI may change our jobs, it can also increase productivity and people performance, releasing employees from mundane tasks so they can focus on more important issues. Our guests talk about the uses of AI. How we need to embrace, not fear it, and why. And that no, “It’s not possible that robots could replace humans.”
Maybe…

Perspectives Matter #2907 - The U.S. Saudi Relationship: What’s Next?
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
Joining Host Jim Falk for a robust discussion on our present U.S. Saudi relationship are:
Robert Jordan, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia during the two years immediately following the 9/11 attacks. He is the author of Desert Diplomat: Inside Saudi Arabia Following 9/11, and
Gregory Gause, Ph.D., Professor of International Affairs at the Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service.
For most Americans, Saudi Arabia remains a dark mystery. According to a recent survey by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the American public has never had more negative feelings toward the country.
Among the reasons are our perceptions of their blatant human rights abuses, that 15 of the 19 terrorists involved in the 9/11 attack were Saudi, and the re-establishing of Saudi- Iran relationships. The price we pay at the pump also influences our views.
But much is happening there that merits a deeper look. Reforms, that could not have been imagined over a decade ago, like allowing women to drive, and travel without a male guardian are now accepted.
Knowing that its economy is based on a finite resource-oil, the Government is banking on an ambitious economic plan called Vision 2030.
Join us for the rest of the story.

Perspectives Matter #2902 - Cancel Culture: A Political Hot Potato?
Sunday Feb 19, 2023
Sunday Feb 19, 2023
What is the controversy about cancel culture all about?
Cancel culture has become a deeply contested political hot potato in the nation’s political discourse. Is it about accountability or a tactic to punish others unjustly, or a mix of both. And some argue that cancel culture doesn’t even exist.
Some 49% of those familiar with the term said it describes actions people take to hold others accountable for egregious statements, slurs, and attacks on others’ character, ethnicity, etc.
Is it helping our society evolve, or is it polarizing us?Or is there some common ground we can learn from?
Joining Host Vince Poscente to answer these questions, are
Ernest Owens, an award-winning journalist and recent recipient of The Change Makers Award. He is also the author of an upcoming book, “The Case for Cancel Culture,” and
Jonathan Rauch, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, an award-winning journalist, and a proponent of free speech. He’s the author of “The Constitution of Knowledge: A Defense of Truth.”

The workplace has dramatically shifted In the last three years, in part influenced by the pandemic. It’s introduced new ways of working, liberated workers from just the 9 to 5, the list goes on.
We see a shifting economic landscape, higher levels of stress, a new remote and hybrid work environment, smart machines, AI, a greater demand for digital dexterity, rising inequality, less engaged workers, and more women leaving the workforce.
The list goes on.
So how have these factors changed our workplace? And most importantly how will l today’s challenges influence the workplace, workers, and the economy tomorrow?

The growing number of documents marked as classified “showing up” at political leaders’ homes and offices has become a national political hot potato.
The discovery of classified documents found in President Biden’s and Mike Pence’s former offices, and the classified documents found at President Trump’s Mar Lago estate, all raise serious concerns about our nation’s security.
It appears that classification is not always done to ensure our national security but to potentially shield our government and those who act on its behalf from embarrassment, policy failures and just plain incompetence.
Why should we as citizens care?
Join Host Jim Falk, and our two experts,
Matthew Connelly, Ph.D., Professor of Global History, Columbia University, and the author of The Declassification Engine: What History Reveals About America’s Top Secrets, and
Richard H. Immerman, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of History, Temple University, former Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence, to learn more about the growing maze of government secrets.

Perspectives Matter #2905 - LGBTQ+ Issues in Society Today
Sunday Jan 29, 2023
Sunday Jan 29, 2023
The LGBTQ+ community continues to face discrimination. In particular, LGBTQ+ youth decisions that were previously made by parents in consultation with medical and licensed mental health professionals are being shifted to States.
How and even whether to provide support and treatment to these young people has become a highly charged political issue with battles in political campaigns and courthouses around the country.
What is the impetus for the wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation that we have been seeing across the U.S.?
To bring clarity to this complicated topic, joining Host Jim Falk are three experienced experts in the medical, legal, and psychological professions:
Dr. Michele Hutchison, Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of New Mexico, Previously she was the Medical Director of the Gender Spectrum Transgender Clinic at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
Dr. Megan Mooney, a licensed psychologist in private practice in Houston, specializes in serving traumatized children and families, particularly LGBTQ+ youth, and
Shelly Skeen, a Senior Attorney with Lambda Legal Education and Defense Fund, a national civil rights organization devoted to achieving and protecting the civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Brianna Rosen, Ph.D., Senior Fellow at Just Security, visiting fellow at the Oxford Institute of Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict and
Joseph O. Chapa, Ph.D., Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Airforce, Author: Is Remote Warfare Moral?

Speaking in mid-November, Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said, “In the last two weeks, we have been convinced once again the wars of the future will be about maximum drones and minimal humans.”
Still, drone warfare remains controversial, with many questioning the ethics, morality, and critical legal issues of using drones to fight their wars, even though they may be considered essential instruments of war.
Join our guests to probe further into these and other questions:
Is drone warfare needed? What is its main purpose? How do we ensure the safety of civilians surrounding the target?
